PAYE/NIC Health Checks/Risk Management

The scope, complexity and ever-changing nature of employment tax legislation means that many small and medium size businesses struggle to keep up to date with their obligations is becoming increasingly difficult. HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) carries out almost 30,000 Employer Compliance Reviews annually and if tax or NICs are found to be underpaid (or reporting obligations have not been complied with) then the business will have to pay not only the additional tax due, but also interest and penalties. Ignorance or carelessness is no defence.

Our Health-Check offers businesses reassurance and peace of mind. The review is carried out by former HMRC Inspectors and covers all areas typically considered by HMRC during an enquiry. Alternatively, we focus on those areas causing concern to the business owner.

As part of the Health-Check, we discuss the systems and procedures being operated by the business and carry out a sample record review. We then summarise our findings and provide specific advice by way of a report. These typically cover the following issues: -
